DESCRIPTION

· The MCP2120 is an IrDA® Physical Layer Specification (version 1.3) compliant UART to IR encoder/decoder.

· It interfaces with IrDA compliant transceivers and can be used with any UART, including standard 16550 UART and microcontroller UART.

FEATURES

· Supports transmit/receive formats with 1.63 µs pulse width.

· Hardware or software baud rate selection up to 115.2 kbaud (IrDA standard) and 312.5 kbaud (at 20 MHz).

· Low power mode and Pb-free packaging.

· CMOS technology with fully static design and low voltage operation.

· Operates in commercial and industrial temperature ranges.

· Low power consumption: <1 mA @ 3.3V, 8 MHz (typical) and 3 mA @ 5.0V when disabled.
