DESCRIPTION

· The MCP2120 is an IrDA® Physical Layer Specification (version 1.3) compliant device.

· It functions as a UART to IR Encoder/Decoder, interfacing with IrDA compliant transceivers.

· Compatible with any UART, including standard 16550 UART and microcontroller UART.

· Supports transmit/receive formats with a pulse width of 1.63 µs.

· Offers hardware or software baud rate selection up to 115.2 kbaud (IrDA standard) and 312.5 kbaud at 20 MHz.

· Features low power mode and Pb-free packaging.

· Utilizes low-power, high-speed CMOS technology with fully static design.

· Operates at low voltage with commercial and industrial temperature ranges.

· Consumes less than 1 mA at 3.3V, 8 MHz and typically 3 mA at 5.0V when disabled.
