DESCRIPTION

· The DS3991 is a CCFL controller designed for LCD backlighting, supporting push-pull and half-bridge drive topologies.

· It converts DC voltage (5V to 24V) to high-voltage AC (300V RMS to 1400V RMS) required for CCFLs.

· Minimal external components reduce cost and simplify PCB design.

· Provides efficient DC to AC conversion with near-sinusoidal waveforms.

FEATURES

· CCFL controller for LCD panel backlighting.

· Lamp fault monitoring for open, overcurrent, failure-to-strike, and overvoltage conditions.

· Accurate (±5%) on-board oscillators for lamp frequency (40kHz to 80kHz) and DPWM burst-dimming frequency (80Hz to 300Hz).

· Device and inverter supply undervoltage and overvoltage lockouts.

· Soft-start on burst-dimming minimizes audible transformer noise.

· Strike frequency boost and 100% to <10% dimming range.

· Low cost, single-supply operation (4.5V to 5.5V), and temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.

· Available in a 16-pin SO package (150 mils).
