Overview

DESCRIPTION

· The SMJ320C40 and TMP320C40 are high-performance floating-point digital signal processors (DSPs) designed for a wide range of applications.

· Fabricated using Enhanced Performance Implanted CMOS (EPIC™) technology by Texas Instruments (TI™).

· Available in multiple packaging options including 325-Pin Ceramic Grid Array, 352-Lead Ceramic Quad Flatpack, and 324-Pad JEDEC-Standard TAB Frame.



FEATURES

· Highest performance floating-point DSP with instruction cycle times ranging from 33 ns to 50 ns, delivering up to 60 MFLOPS, 30 MIPS, 330 MOPS, and 384 MBps.

· Six communication ports and a 6-channel Direct Memory Access (DMA) coprocessor for efficient data handling.

· Single-cycle conversion to and from IEEE-745 floating-point format, and single-cycle 40-bit floating-point, 32-bit integer multipliers.

· 12 40-bit registers, 8 auxiliary registers, 14 control registers, and 2 timers for enhanced processing capabilities.

· IEEE Standard 1149.1 Test-Access Port (JTAG) for boundary-scan architecture.

· Two identical external data and address buses supporting shared memory systems with high data-rate, single-cycle transfers up to 100 MBytes/s per bus.

· On-chip program cache and dual-access/single-cycle RAM, including a 512-byte instruction cache and 8K bytes of single-cycle dual-access program or data RAM.

· ROM-based bootloader supports program bootup using 8-, 16-, or 32-bit memories over any one of the communication ports.



APPLICATIONS

· Suitable for military, special, and commercial applications with operating temperature ranges from -55°C to 125°C.

· Ideal for high-performance computing tasks requiring massive concurrent input/output (I/O) of program and data throughput.

· Effective in systems requiring fast, intelligent bus arbitration and support for different speed memories in hardware.

· Applicable in environments where validated Ada compiler and source-code compatibility with SMJ320C30 are necessary.
