DESCRIPTION

· UM3221E/UM3222E/UM3232E series are 3.3V powered RS-232 transceivers for portable or hand-held applications.

· UM3221E has one driver/one receiver; UM3222E/UM3232E has two drivers/two receivers.

· Features low power consumption, high data-rate capability, and enhanced ESD protection.

· ESD rating: ±15kV for human body mode and IEC61000-4-2 air discharge; over ±8kV for IEC61000-4-2 contact discharge.

· Logic I/O pins protected to ±2kV for human body mode.

· Small footprint, low profile package, and use of small 0.1 μF capacitors save board space.

· Data rates greater than 250kbps guaranteed at worst case load conditions.

· Fully compatible with 3.3V-only, mixed 1.8V/3.3V, mixed 3.3V/5.0V, and 5.0V-only systems.

· UM3221E/UM3222E has low-power shutdown mode with supply current less than 1 μA.

· Receivers remain active in shutdown mode for monitoring external signals.

· Pin, package, and functionally compatible with industry standard MAX242 and MAX232.
