DESCRIPTION

· The MAX6650/MAX6651 are SMBus/I2C-compatible fan controllers for regulating and monitoring 5VDC/12VDC brushless fans with tachometers.

· They use an external MOSFET or bipolar transistor to linearly regulate fan voltage, matching the tachometer frequency to a preprogrammed value.

· The MAX6650 controls a single fan, while the MAX6651 can monitor up to four fans and control them as a single unit when used in parallel.

· Both devices feature GPIO pins for digital input/output, LED driving, hardware control, and interrupt generation.

· The MAX6650 is available in a 10-pin µMAX package, and the MAX6651 in a 16-pin QSOP package.
