DESCRIPTION

· The AY0438 is a CMOS integrated device designed to drive up to 32 LCD segments, typically under microprocessor control. It functions as a smart peripheral, requiring only three control lines due to its serial input structure. It latches display data and eliminates the need for the microprocessor to generate complex waveforms. The device supports various LCD types, including field effect and dynamic scattering, and can handle 7-, 9-, 14-, or 16-segment characters, decimals, leading signs, and special symbols. Multiple AY0438 devices can be cascaded. The LCD waveform frequency can be user-supplied or generated internally using an attached capacitor. Available in 40-lead DIP and 44-lead PLCC packages, with unpackaged dice also offered.
