DESCRIPTION
· The MAX24188 is a low-cost IEEE 1588 clock designed as a central time base in multiport systems.
· It provides a common time and frequency reference for timestampers in systems like boundary or transparent clocks.
· The device can be adjusted by system software to synchronize time and frequency with an external 1588 master.
· It adjusts output frequency and time alignment signals to maintain synchronization across all 1588 elements in the system.
· It can function as a standalone central timing function or be used with Maxim’s clock synchronization ICs in multimode systems.
FEATURES
· Complete hardware support for IEEE 1588.
· Flexible block for any 1588 architecture, enabling ordinary, boundary, and transparent clocks.
· Steered by software to follow an external 1588 master.
· High time resolution (2-8ns) and period resolution (2-32ns).
· Accurate input timestamp (1ns) and output edge placement (1ns).
· Three time/frequency controls: direct time write, time adjustment, and high-resolution frequency adjustment.
· Programmable clock and time-alignment I/O to synchronize all 1588 elements.
· Output clock signal (125MHz/N, 1 ≤ N ≤ 255) and time alignment signal (e.g., 1PPS).
· Frequency-lock to an input clock signal and timestamp input time alignment signal.
