DESCRIPTION

· The ISL8485, ISL8490, and ISL8491 are 5V powered, BiCMOS RS-485/RS-422 transceivers compliant with both RS-485 and RS-422 standards.

· These devices support data rates up to 5Mbps and are designed for 10% tolerance power supplies (4.5V to 5.5V).

· They present a single unit load to the RS-485 bus, enabling up to 32 transceivers on the network.

· The receiver inputs feature a "fail-safe if open" design, ensuring a logic high output when inputs are floating.

· Driver outputs are short-circuit protected, even for voltages exceeding the supply voltage, and include on-chip thermal shutdown to prevent damage from excessive power dissipation.

· The ISL8490 and ISL8491 support full duplex applications, while the ISL8485 is configured for half duplex with Rx and Tx disable functions in an 8-pin package.
