DESCRIPTION

· The ISL9520 is a highly integrated Narrow VDC system voltage regulator and battery charger controller.

· It operates with programmable parameters over the System Management Bus (SMBus).

· Designed for applications where the system power source is either the battery pack or the regulator/charger output.

· Features a patented system for trickle charging deeply discharged batteries while maintaining a user-defined minimum system voltage.

· Utilizes a DC/DC synchronous-rectifier buck converter for high efficiency, with diode emulation and variable switching frequency.

· Capable of charging two, three, or four series-connected Lithium-ion cells at up to 8A charge current.

· Includes integrated MOSFET drivers and a bootstrap diode to reduce component count and implementation area.

· ±0.5% system voltage accuracy from -10°C to +100°C.

· ±3% accurate input and battery charge current limits.

· Variable switching frequency at light loads for higher efficiency and fixed frequency operation at higher loads.

· Default system voltage values for 2-cell, 3-cell, or 4-cell operation selectable by an external pin.

· Adapter in-rush FET control and adapter isolation FET control.

· Monitor outputs for adapter and battery discharge current, and AC-adapter presence indicator.

· 11-bit max system voltage setting and 7-bit min system voltage setting.

· 6-bit charge and adapter current settings, supporting over 8A.

· Adapter voltage range from +9V to +22V and VOUT from 2.5V to 19V in 16mV increments.

· High efficiency at loads < 0.5W, suitable for Energy Star 2013 and ErP lot 6.

· Turbo mode support with pulse-by-pulse response to limit adapter current.

· Pb-Free and RoHS compliant.
