Overview

DESCRIPTION

· The LP8551 is a high-efficiency white LED driver with an integrated boost converter, designed for notebook LCD display backlighting.

· It features four adjustable current sinks controllable via PWM input or I2C-compatible serial interface.

· The boost converter employs adaptive output voltage control to minimize power consumption by adjusting to the lowest sufficient voltage level.

· LED outputs offer 8-bit current resolution and up to 13-bit PWM resolution for precise brightness control.

· Proprietary Phase Shift PWM control reduces peak current, allowing for smaller boost capacitors and eliminating audible noise.

· Internal EEPROM stores configuration data, reducing external component count and solution size.



FEATURES

· High-Voltage DC/DC Boost Converter with integrated FET.

· Supports input voltage range from 2.7-V to 22-V, accommodating 1x to 5x cell Li-Ion batteries.

· Four switching frequency options: 156, 312, 625, and 1250 kHz.

· 50-mA high-precision LED current sinks with adaptive headroom control for maximum system efficiency.

· Programmable PWM resolution from 8 to 13 bits.

· I2C and PWM input duty cycle brightness control.

· PWM output frequency and LED current set through resistors.

· Four LED outputs with fault detection for short/open conditions.

· Safety features include low input voltage, overtemperature, overcurrent detection, and shutdown.
