Overview

DESCRIPTION

· The LP8556 is a white-LED driver featuring an asynchronous boost converter and six high-precision current sinks, controllable via PWM or I2C.

· It uses adaptive output voltage control to optimize LED driver voltages between 7V and 43V, minimizing power consumption.

· Operates at three switchable frequencies: 312 kHz, 625 kHz, and 1250 kHz, configurable via external resistor or EPROM.

· Includes programmable slew rate control and spread spectrum to reduce switching noise and enhance EMI performance.

· Features phase-shifted LED PWM dimming to reduce audible noise and allow for smaller boost output capacitors.

· Comprehensive fault protection includes UVLO, TSD, OCP, up to six OVP levels, and LED open/short detection.

· Available in compact 20-pin DSBGA and 24-pin WQFN packages, operating from -30°C to +85°C.



FEATURES

· High-efficiency DC/DC boost converter with integrated 0.19-Ω power MOSFET.

· Input voltage range from 2.7V to 36V, supporting multi-cell Li-Ion batteries.

· Output voltage range from 7V to 43V, suitable for 3 to 12 series LEDs per channel.

· Configurable channel count from 1 to 6, with up to 50mA per channel.

· PWM and I2C brightness control with up to 15-bit PWM dimming resolution.

· Adaptive dimming mode for higher optical efficiency and system power saving.

· Programmable edge-rate control and spread spectrum to minimize switching noise and improve EMI.

· Robust fault protection including UVLO, TSD, OCP, OVP, and LED fault detection.
